Why use a Certified Contractor?

Asbestos and Mould Removal projects require specially trained staff to ensure that the problem is dealt with properly. For instance, asbestos is a designated substance, and its removal must be carried out by certified professionals. Some moulds are toxic and can be hazardous to you and the health of your family. They require proper identification and removal to prevent future infestations. Accurately identifying and removing asbestos and toxic mould is critical to maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Certified Contractors are professionally trained to deal with all types of restoration projects and indoor health hazards - including mould and asbestos in a safe and environmentally friendly way.

How can I be sure that a Contractor is certified?

Certified contractors have experience in dealing with a wide variety of hazardous and non-hazardous materials. As a result, ensure that the contractor you are considering is experienced with your situation and that they can provide references and proof of certification. As well, reputable mould contractors - the ones recognized by the Insurance Industry - are registered and certified by the IICRC, the gold standard in professional restoration. Asbestos contractors in Ontario must complete the Asbestos Abatement Worker Training Program approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, as per Ontario Regulation 278/05. Make sure that the contractor you deal with is certified. Lastly, confirm that they carry adequate general liability insurance, environmental pollution insurance and WSIB coverage.

Mould Removal Questions

Can I Remove Mould Myself?

Although do-it-yourself mould removal kits are available, they are generally cheap. While promising to make the job quick and easy, they do not provide any way of knowing whether the mould in your home or business is toxic or non-toxic. They may claim to be a one size fits all remedy for all kinds of mould, but they can’t guarantee to be equally effective when it comes to the most dangerous and toxic types of mould.

Ceiling Mould, what should I do?

We recommend two methods for removing non-toxic ceiling mould on your own: bleach (chemical) and or vinegar (100% natural) will both do the job. Bleach is the best option, as it’s an excellent cleaning agent and kills the mould while also sanitizing the ceiling to prevent its return. Vinegar will also kill and prevent mould growth, but only if applied regularly to the affected areas. If you suspect the growth of toxic mould, it’s best to call a certified mould removal specialist for confirmation and, if so, proper removal and disposal.

Basement with mould, what should I do?

To clean non-toxic basement mould yourself, apply a mould-killing cleaning agent such as diluted bleach, undiluted vinegar, or 3% hydrogen peroxide. Let the solution sit briefly, then scrub and rinse the area. Eliminate any leaks, condensation and excess humidity, since reducing moisture is the best way to combat basement mould. If you suspect the growth of black and or toxic mould, it’s best to call a certified mould removal specialist for confirmation and, if so, proper removal and disposal.

Attic mould, what should I do?

We don’t recommend removing attic mould on your own, as these types of jobs are inherently dangerous and complicated. Even if you do remove it yourself, the moisture problem that caused it may remain. Hiring the right professional will result in the removal of the attic mould and the cause of the problem. The most common type of remediation is chemical-based and use powerful cleansing agents that will kill the fungus. The next step is to cover the attic with powerful antifungal sealers that stop it from growing back. Chemical-based remediation is highly effective and usually costs the least, so it’s the most popular option.

Do I have Asbestos in my home? How can I find out?

Nobody wants to find harmful asbestos in their home. And to complicate matters, you cannot visibly detect if a product or material contains asbestos just by looking at it. The only way to verify its presence in a residential property is to have it tested by a laboratory.
