Our Process for Mould and Asbestos Removal

Before choosing a contractor, ensure that they are qualified and that their removal process follows industry standards and eco-friendly best practices.

The following guidelines will help you to make an informed decision. And we are always available to answer your questions.

Mould removal

When it comes to the remediation of mould in residential or commercial properties, our technicians are qualified and follow the best practices and guidelines as set out by:

You can usually clean small and moderate areas of mould by yourself. A small area of mould consists of 1 – 3 patches, each less than 1 m2 (10 square feet) in size. Moderate mould growth is considered more than 3 patches or if the patches are greater than 1 m2 but less than 3 m2 (32 square feet).

However, you should get professional help with extensive mould growth, which is anything larger than 32 square feet.

Mould Removal Process

We use a six step process for when professional mould remediation is required, as follows:

  • 1 Determine the extent and severity of the mould contamination, which may be hidden behind walls or otherwise not immediately visible;
  • 2 Isolate the contaminated area, protecting uncontaminated areas;
  • 3 Install and measure the negative pressure readings via HEPA equipped negative air machines;
  • 4 Remove and safely dispose all contaminated materials;
  • 5 Remediate the mould growth with abrasive processes, and an environmentally-friendly anti-microbial finishing wash;
  • 6 Clean the entire area with a HEPA vacuum.

Asbestos removal

When it comes to the removal of asbestos in residential or commercial properties, our technicians are qualified and certified professionals. Each technician has successfully completed the Asbestos Abatement Worker (AAW) Training Program approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in Ontario.

Along with years of experience removing asbestos, our technicians are compliant with all three types of asbestos abatement operations, classified as Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3, according to the extent and location of asbestos contamination.

Our asbestos removal process follows the best practices and guidelines as set out by:

Asbestos Removal Process

Note: “non-friable” refers to material that does not create dust, and is therefore not considered an active hazard.

Type 1 Asbestos Removal

  • Removing asbestos-containing ceiling tiles, vinyl floor tiles.
  • Removing non-friable asbestos-containing materials, other than ceilings.
  • Power tools are not used, and only non-friable material is cut into or otherwise disturbed.

Type 2 Asbestos Removal

  • Removal of small areas or amounts of friable asbestos-containing materials (i.e. pipe insulation, floor duct, paper wrap insulation, sheet flooring, etc.)
  • Removing all or part of a false-ceiling to obtain access to a work area, if asbestos-containing material is likely to be lying on the surface of the false ceiling.
  • Enclosing friable asbestos-containing material.
  • Only non-friable material is cut into or sanded.
  • Containment is required, along with the use of Negative Air HEPA Filtration and Personal Protective Equipment.

Type 3 Asbestos Removal

  • Repairing, altering or demolishing all or part of any building in which asbestos is or was used in the manufacture of products, unless the asbestos was cleaned up and removed before March 16, 1986.
  • Large areas or amounts of friable asbestos-containing material (greater than 1 square metre) including all of the above materials, and more.
  • In addition to containment and the use of Negative Air HEPA Filtration and Personal Protective Equipment, containment with a portable shower is also required.
